About the Hadley Woman’s Board.
Established in 1953, the Woman’s Board has been a vital source of personal and financial support for Hadley. Its roughly thirty members work together throughout the year to support Hadley’s free programs for people adjusting to vision loss.
Our history.
The board was founded in 1953 by Nancy Brown Jones, daughter of one of Hadley’s co-founders, to sustain Hadley through a hard period. What began as a rescue effort became a permanent partnership: the Woman’s Board is Hadley’s single largest lifetime donor, giving more than six million dollars since its founding.
The board is a group of about thirty women from Winnetka and the surrounding communities. Membership is by recommendation from a current member, and many members serve for decades. A Teen Board brings high-school students into the work as well.*
What we do.
September to May
Monthly meetings.
The board meets monthly at Hadley from September through May, with each meeting hosted by members.
Each fall
The holiday card sale.
The annual braille holiday card sale is the board’s signature fundraiser, sold through the Hadley Card Store (opens in a new tab).

The Benefit.
An annual Benefit, along with smaller events through the year, raises money for Hadley’s programs.
Year-round
The Teen Board.
A Teen Board of high-school students supports the board’s fundraisers and Hadley’s work.
